Synchron Stage Vienna looks to the future with Yamaha CFX Disklavier
Vienna’s pioneering world class Synchron Stage recording facility has embraced one of the ultimate symbols of technology and handcrafted tradition with the acquisition of a Yamaha CFX Disklavier Enspire Pro. The instrument combines Yamaha’s award-winning Disklavier player piano and remote technology with it’s flagship 9’ concert grand piano, the installation of which will bring new creative and technical possibilities to Synchron Stage’s wide variety of top-level projects.
Founded in 1940, the facility was part of “Film City Vienna”, adjacent to the prestigious Rosenhügel-Filmstudios, specialising in recording film scores with large orchestras. From the 1960s the studio recorded some of the world’s most revered classical artists, including Yehudi Menuhin, Sviatoslav Richter, and Mstislav Rostropovich.
In 2009 Synchron Stage was officially listed as a ‘landmark protected building’, thanks in no small part to the unique cinema organ, which to this day remains on the original scoring stage. Built by Alfred Lenk and Emil Wilck (hence the name Lenkwil-Orgel), the organ has three manuals and 11 ranks, and is built in a multiplex system.
Fast-forwarding to the present day, Synchron Stage is the only recording studio in the world that combines its famed traditional recording techniques and procedures with state-of-the-art proprietary software and pioneering technical innovations. Its unique acoustics and expert personnel are in great demand from a wide range of film studios, music production companies and composers. Projects recorded at Synchron Stage Vienna include film scores (Inferno, Lego Batman), TV series (Crown), video games, commercials, pop, jazz and classical record productions.
Also part of the facility is The Vienna Symphonic Library, a leading developer of orchestral sample libraries and music production software.
Commenting on the CFX Disklavier, CEO Herb Tucmandl said, “Synchron Stage Vienna always pursue highest quality standards with the top league of instruments for our projects. Therefore it was obligatory for us to own a Yamaha CFX concert grand with its international reputation. The integrated Disklavier ENSPIRE PRO technology provides total connectivity in combination with pure sound that matches our requirements perfectly especially for our music productions for feature films. We appreciate the ability to create and capture performances that enables us to provide a flexible setup for superior recordings to our customers.”
